Artist’s Statement
This collection focuses mental illnesses and the intense realities that come along with them. While working with abstract figures I am trying to maintain a sense of realism. By keeping the works realistic, it reminds the viewer that for some, this is their reality. My art pushes boundaries as it explores what mental illness is like. While working with colored pencils, I lightly lay down layers of pigment adding more pressure as a I add more details. Often, I will use a mix of natural oils to blend and soften edges or give something a blurry, out of focus look. I often use a black and white theme with a singular color accent to draw emphasis to a certain spot.
